HD Quick Guide

When I created the tutorial, it was intended to be an all-inclusive tutorial so that I could minimize questions.  Instead, I recognize a few people have looked at the page and immediately decided that it was too much information or too much work.  In all reality, many of you may not need the tutorial.  I should clarify that the longer tutorial should only be used as a reference in the event you have issues.   Nevertheless, I have created the ten step process to be more concise regarding the Elgato Capture Device.

1.)   Make sure you PC (laptop/desktop) has met, at least, the minimum requirements.

2.)   Obtain Elgato HD Capture Device and MICRO or MINI HDMI cord.

3.)   Open Elgato box contents and connect USB cord, Elgato device, and MINI/MICRO HDMI Cord to your computer.

4.)   Download software with link provided in box contents.

5.)   Open Software and Change Settings to recognize device.

  1. This software records Apple products, Android Products, and other devices.

6.)   Make sure the footage on your camcorder is showing correct on the capture screen.

7.)   If you require no sound, turn the tuner dial completely to the left on all sound settings.

8.)   Press play on your camcorder and click the red “Capture” on the software screen.

  1. There may be a delay from what is playing on your camcorder and the screen.  This is absolutely okay and can helpful when recording.

9.)   Once video is complete, click stop on the orange “Capture” button to stop the recording.

10.) If necessary, edit the video and pay attention to where it is being saved.

If you have any difficulty with any of these steps, then refer to the tutorial.  The video records in .MP4 and therefore should be much more recognizable with your client’s software than AVCHD.  MPEG4 (.MP4) spans many current and previous operating systems of Microsoft and Apple.  Lastly, you should NOT have to change the file extension or convert to a different format.  Doing so, as many people tend to do with AVCHD (because their clients cannot view the videos), results in a lower quality and possibly distorted video.  It also can affect the frame rate and/or result in frame rate loss.
